SUPPORT CITY CHORUS: Spend and Raise
******************************
Membership of the choir is open to all, without audition, but if in the opinion of the conductor (in consultation with the committee) any singer is not musically ready to take part in any public performance, he or she may be invited to sit out of, ie not take part in, a public concert.
Ladies’ dress code: long black dresses, or long black skirts or trousers, with black tops; three-quarter-length or long sleeves, no plunging necklines or flashy jewellery; black shoes.
Men’s dress code: black DJs and black bow ties, white shirts; black shoes.
If a member is incorrectly dressed they may be asked not to take part.
On stage: no water bottles, no handbags. No photographic, audio or video recording will be permitted without prior approval. We usually sing at least one piece from memory at each concert.
OTHER
Paul conducts a voice placement session with every member of the Choir. These are not auditions but are to help him to decide where to place singers (firsts or seconds in each voice part, and for the seating plan). A voice placement session involves singing a few scales, and singing back a few notes from the piano – the session lasts about 2 minutes, and is not held in front of the rest of the choir!
City Chorus organises a professional guest singing teacher to give individual singing lessons (during the Tuesday rehearsal time). For details, see Jenny Ballantyne.
